Grow something new with our Seed Libraries! Available at selected Hutt City Libraries, our Seed Libraries make it easy to share, grow, and discover a wide variety of vegetable, herb, flower, and native plant seeds.
Whether you're an experienced gardener or just getting started, you're welcome to take seeds home to grow in your own garden. As your plants mature, we encourage you to save some seeds and donate them back to help keep the Seed Libraries thriving for everyone in the community.
Our Seed Libraries are a great way to:
- Grow your own food and flowers
- Try new varieties without the cost of buying full seed packets
- Learn about seed saving and sustainable gardening
- Share locally grown seeds with your community
There is no charge to use the Seed Libraries, and seed donations are always appreciated if you're able to save seeds from your harvest.
Where to find our Seed Libraries
Our permanent Seed Libraries are located at Eastbourne Neighbourhood Hub, Kōraunui Stokes Valley Neighbourhood Hub, Moerā Neighbourhood Hub, and Naenae Neighbourhood Hub.
We also have a Travelling Seed Library that visits different Neighbourhood Hubs, giving more communities the opportunity to access free seeds.
To find out where the Travelling Seed Library will be visiting next, please contact your local Neighbourhood Hub.
