SMART Libraries

Hutt City Libraries is part of SMART Libraries which includes Wairarapa Library Service, Porirua City Libraries, Kāpiti Coast District Libraries, Masterton District Library, Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec), and Whitireia Libraries.

When you search our catalogue you’ll have the option to extend your search out to SMART Libraries. You can reserve items from any of the SMART Libraries, pick them up and return them at any of our libraries for free.

Items you borrow from other SMART libraries might have different rental or overdue charges. This is because the library that owns the item decides how long to lend it for, when to send notices, and how much to charge for each item. For rental and overdue charges for other SMART Libraries please visit their websites - Wairarapa Library Service, Porirua, Kāpiti, Masterton; items from WelTec and Whitireia NZ do not have rental or overdue charges.

Education borrower membership

Hutt City Libraries offers an Education Borrower Membership to any preschool, primary, or secondary school in the Hutt City Libraries' membership area.

Please remember that collections for children and teens at Hutt City Libraries have been developed to support early literacy, lifelong curiosity in the world around us, and a love of reading. Hutt City Libraries’ collections have not been developed to support the New Zealand school curriculum.

Conditions of the Education Borrower membership reflect this philosophy. We continue to limit the number of items able to be loaned per topic to three (3) items to ensure there is plenty of material for all users of the library to enjoy.

To apply for an Educator Borrower Membership download a copy of the application form or ask for a copy at your local library.
